Frequently asked questions
The most common questions we get from our clients
A good quality spray tan will last up to 7-10 days though it does vary according to your skin regime and the depth of the spray tan you opt for. A light bronze can fade in around 5 days, while a darker shade will stay put for a good week.
NO, if you follow proper prep/post care and you have a kick ass spray tan artist!
Solutions have come a long way since first introduced and that orange look is no longer a thing.
Although, there are a few reasons why your spray tan may turn orange. First off, over saturation of solution and too high of DHA concentration may have been applied. This is why it's so important to have a skin consultation prior to your appointment. Secondly, leaving your spray tan solution on longer than your rinse time will cause your tan to develop into that dreaded Ross look.
You may wear whatever you feel most comfortable in whether it be underwear, a thong, swimsuit, or nothing at all. If you are wearing something, take into consideration what you are tanning for and where the tan lines will be. We do provide disposable underwear and nipple covers as an option as well. Men are required to wear underwear. Our solution washes out of your clothing so there is no need to worry about damaging clothing.
After your tan wear dark loose clothing and flip flops. No jewelry, bras, or socks.
The answer is absolutely!
The active bronzing ingredient in spray tanning is dihydroxyacetone or DHA. This non-toxic chemical reacts with the outermost layer of your skin to give it that gorgeous tan you know and love. Testing indicates it doesn’t penetrate other layers of your skin or enter your bloodstream.
However, it's always best to consult with your doctor before booking your session and to be safe, we recommend getting spray tans after your first trimester.
Overall, the process will take approximately 40 minutes. The application of the airbrush tan will take approximately 10-15 minutes. The additional time is allotted for changing of clothes, preparing the skin, and chatting about your desired glow and aftercare.
Your rinse time will be discussed after your spray tan appointment and will be based on how dark you’d like to be and whether you’ve used a rapid or classic solution. However your rinse time will range from 1-4 hours for a rapid tan and 8 hours for a classic tan. It is very important to stick to the rinse time especially if using a rapid tan because over development can cause your tan to turn orange.
We recommend 1-2 days before an event. For brides we do recommend 2-3 days before. You will need to have a minimum of one shower before your event to get the instant bronzer off as that is when your spray tan looks the best and is set into your skin.
For vacations we recommend the 1 day before to ensure that the tan lasts during your holiday.
Rapid Rinse Solution has a higher DHA% and allows you to rinse sooner between 1-4 hours. Rapid tan option is great for those who have daytime appointments, sweat a lot, and have a lot on the go. The rinse window is smaller so there is less chance for error in the development of the tan meaning you are more aware of your surroundings and movement. However after your rinse, it will seem like the tan is gone but keep in mind it takes 24 hours for the tan to fully develop.
Classic Rinse Solution has a lower DHA% and rinse times are between 8-12 hours. Because the solution has been left on longer on your skin before rinsing, the tan is more visible after you've showered. The rinse times are more flexible so if left on longer, i.e. you fall asleep, it won't develop into an undesired brassy tone. This option is great for those who have evening appointments and literally have nothing to do but go home, Netflix + marinate, and/or sleep. I also recommend this option to seasoned sunless tanners as you know exactly how the tan will develop after your snooze in solution.
No! When going into the sun, you must wear sun protection. The only way it will help to protect you is that you will not be tempted to sunbathe since you will have your tan already.
Everybody’s skin develops its own individual colour based on your current skin tone. Some people go a few shades darker, very dark, or some may just get a glow. We have multiple solutions and custom mixes to choose from. The level of darkness will also depend on your rinse time as well which we discuss with you after your spray tan. We will also do a consultation with you when you come in to match your desired end result.
Airbrush technicians control the amount of solution on the hands, feet and other areas that need to appear more natural especially in the winter we change up our routine to adjust for dry skin. Also, the breathing factor is much better. You can breathe normally and not worry about solution being sprayed out all over the place. A booth just sprays out & you hope that you are standing in the correct position (unlike Ross)
The best thing to help your tan last longer on vacation is to ensure there are no prolonged soaks in the pool or ocean and definitely no use of hot tubs or saunas. It is recommended showering after a pool or ocean swim to rinse off chemicals and ocean salt which acts as a natural exfoliant. Also, moisturizing a minimum of 2 times daily, using waterproof sunblock, and staying hydrated will help longevity. Booking the Glow Getter Tan or buying a tan extender are totally worth it as well for vacations!
The odd time people see a bit of bronzer come off on your clothes. The solutions are water soluble and will come off in the wash and do not stain. Once you have your first shower it is set in and you will not see any spray tan products coming off on your clothing. If you do still see a bit coming off after your first shower that means you haven't rinsed the bronzer off well enough or on rare occasions the skin PH balance can be off.
Spray tans can cover up tan lines up to 70-80%, The result will be dependent on the width and shade difference between the tan line and your natural skin tone.
If you suffer from extreme dry skin (which would be to the point of flaking off) but moisturize all the time, You will get best results from a rapid tan or using some very hydrating oils like coconut, grapeseed, and almond oil, This would be a prep multiple days leading up to the tan. (Don't use the day of the tan). We also have our Glow Getter Hydration Tan as an option as well that will help with keeping your tan flawless and glowing.
Yes! It does not affect the coloring of tattoos and will just look like a normal tan would from the sun. If you have a fresh tattoo, wait at least 14 days.
We recommend you do not wear any make up to your appointment as it will act as a barrier. If you are coming from work or somewhere where you will have make up on, make sure to remove it with oil free face wash. We also offer make up wipes to use as well. You may apply makeup after rinsing but recommend you wait at least 24 hours as the tan will still be developing.
Spray tans should be one of the last services you get before an event if possible. If you have pedicures, manicures, waxing or eyelash extension appointments it should be done before your spray tan. If you are doing pedicures or manicures the same day as your appointment make sure NO lotions are applied.
As much as we would love to see your face more often, the short answer is no. It is not a build up like a UV tan. One tan will last you approximately a week.
